Mike is joined by Dr. Fergal O’Hagan and Mohamed (Mo) Yusuf to discuss mental skills development, how it translates to performance, and common misconceptions. Fergal shares a program (developed by Psychologists Dr. Frank Gardner and Dr. Zella Moore) that he runs in his position as the mental skills coach with the Trent University varsity men’s rugby team. The program exposes athletes to concepts such as mindfulness (or present time awareness) to help them understand the connection between their thoughts and behaviours. Mohamed is a recent graduate of Trent University and former captain of the varsity men’s rugby team. He comes on to share his experience participating in the program as well as his beliefs around the utility of mental training for athletes.
